Who qualifies for an Old age pension in South Africa?

The following are the requirement to qualify for Old age pension in south Africa

Persons must be a South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee.

Not receive any social grant for yourself

Not be cared for in a state institution.

Not earn more than R86 280 if you are single or R172 560 if married.

Persons must be 60 years or older.

Not have assets worth more than 1227 600 if single or R2 455 200 if married

Persons must live in South Africa.

How much is the Grant fund?

Maximum amount that is paid per month is R1980. Persons , Older than 75 years could however receive R2 000.

At What Age Do You Qualify for Old Age Pension?

You cannot receive an old age pension if you are institutionalised, even if you are 60 years old or older. However, in order to be eligible for this grant, you cannot already have received another grant.

You cannot receive an old age pension while living in a nursing home if you want to qualify for this grant, but you must be 60 years old or older. If you already have another grant, you will not be able to receive an old age pension.
