Durban University of Technology: 2025-2026 Academic Schedule Overview
Introduction: Welcome to the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 session at Durban University of Technology (DUT). This schedule is crafted to guide both new and returning students through the academic year.
University Re-Opening:
- Staff Resumption: Administrative and necessary academic staff return on Tuesday, 03 January. Other staff members resume on 09 January.
Academic Terms:
- Term 1: 06 February to 06 April
- Term 2: 17 April to 23 June
- Term 3: 17 July to 22 September
- Term 4: 02 October to 15 December
- Note: Semester 1 includes Term 1 and 2; Semester 2 includes Term 3 and 4; Annual courses span Terms 1 to 4.
2025-2026 Registration Dates:
- Undergraduate:
- New and Returning Students: 16 January to 03 February
- Postgraduate:
- Full Research (Master’s and Doctorates): New Students from 16 January to 31 July, Returning Students from 16 January to 03 February
- Course Work (Master’s): New and Returning Students from 16 January to 03 February
- Late Registration: 06 February to 17 February
- Details on module/program changes are in Annexure 3.
Lectures:
- First Semester: 06 February to 30 May (73 days)
- Annual: 06 February to 10 October (146 days)
- Second Semester: 17 July to 07 November (76 days)
Graduation Ceremonies:
- Midlands – Autumn Graduation: 15 May to 17 May
- Durban – Autumn Graduation: 22 May to 02 June
- Durban – Spring Graduation: 20 September to 21 September
Examination Study Period:
- First Semester: 31 May to 04 June (5 days)
- Annual: 11 October to 15 October (5 days)
- Second Semester: 08 November to 12 November (5 days)
Commencement of Examinations:
- First Semester: 05 June to 19 June (10 days)
- Annual: 16 October to 03 November (15 days)
- Second Semester: 13 November to 24 November (10 days)
University Closure:
- The University will be closed from 18 December to 31 December.

- The calendar includes public and religious holidays with a commitment to respecting the beliefs of all staff and students. Detailed dates are available in Annexure 2.
