Pinelands is an affluent suburb located on the edge of the southern suburbs of Cape town. It was established in 1901 on a portion of the Rondebosch Common, following an agreement between the Pinelands Company and the Cape Town Municipality which had been the trustee of the common since 1878. The suburb houses a nature reserve, known as the Rondebosch Common, that is home to several species of mammals including grysbok, porcupines, and caracal, as well as several raptors.
