About Sibona Ilanga Trust:
Sibona Ilanga Trust is a community trust that owns 8% of the De Aar Solar Power plant. The trust’s primary goal is to carry out public welfare activities within a 50-kilometer radius of De Aar Solar Power. To date, the trust has awarded more than 63 bursaries with a total value of R5.9 billion and plans to increase its monetary fund by an additional R2.5 billion for the upcoming academic year.
Sibona Ilanga Trust focuses on providing resources and funding to organizations that improve social cohesion and promote resilience within South African communities. Their mission includes managing social inequalities, funding various programs, and providing access to resources to enhance the quality of life for disadvantaged societies in South Africa.
Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary 2025-2026:
Sibona Ilanga Trust offers bursaries to students from the Northern Cape Province who reside within a 50-kilometer radius of the De Aar Solar Power plant. These bursaries are available to students pursuing degrees in any field. The bursary value is determined based on financial need and academic merit.
The bursary typically covers expenses such as registration fees, examination fees, learning materials (including stationery and textbooks), accommodation in tertiary residences, and meals.
Bursary Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary for 2025-2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen aged 35 years or younger.
- Must reside within a 50-kilometer radius of De Aar Solar Power Plant.
- Should be accepted or enrolled in a recognized and accredited tertiary educational institution in South Africa (university, university of technology, or TVET college).
- Must fall into one of the following categories:
- Completed NTC or NSC and not currently studying.
- Studying toward NQF level 4 (technical, vocational education, or training program).
- Pursuing a degree or national diploma program.
- Must demonstrate financial need.

Documents Required:
To complete your application, you will need to provide the following documents:
- Certified copy of your ID documents.
- Proof of residential address.
- If currently in Matric, provide the latest prelims result. If you’ve completed the Matric examination, submit your Matric certificate or NSC (certified copy).
- Provisional admission letter from a tertiary institution on the institution’s letterhead.
- Proof of the total monthly household income of parents or guardians (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, and proof of pension or grant if applicable).
- An essay responding to questions about your life (you can find 10 questions in the application form).
Closing Date:
The application deadline for the Sibona Ilanga Trust Bursary 2025-2026 is October 30. Ensure that you submit your application before the deadline as late applications will not be considered.
