About the Company – Alfred Nzo District Municipality
The Alfred Nzo District Municipality is located on the northeast side of the Eastern Cape Province and is one of the six districts within the province. It stretches from the Drakensberg Mountains to the borders of Lesotho, encompassing the Sisonke District Municipality and O.R. Tambo District Municipality.
The Municipality is named after Alfred Baphethuxolo Nzo, who served as the secretary-general of the ANC (African National Congress) and as a minister of foreign affairs in Nelson Mandela’s cabinet from 1994 to 1999.
About the Bursary Program – Fields Covered
The Alfred Nzo District Municipality invites students who reside within the Alfred Nzo area of jurisdiction to apply for the bursary program. The program will fund students in the following fields, as they are considered scarce and critical skills:
- Community Water Services and Sanitation (BSc)
- Geographic Information System
- Maritime Studies
- Town and Regional Planning
- Water Resource Management (BSc)
- Other water and sanitation-related qualifications
Successful bursary recipients will be informed by 19 March 2025-2026 at the latest. If you do not receive any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- South African citizen
- Reside within the Alfred Nzo jurisdiction area
- Between 16 and 35 years old
- Completed Matric OR currently in Matric
- Intend to study within one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Intend to study at a recognized South African tertiary institute
- Proven financial need
- Excellent academic record *Preference will be given to disadvantaged students
How to Apply for the Bursary
- Download and complete the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Bursary Application Form (.pdf).
- Alternatively, application forms can be collected from the following locations: ANDM offices/local municipalities (within Mbizana, Ntabankulu, Umzimvubu, and Matatiele) and Ward Councilors.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disregarded):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
- Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
- Proof of enrollment or proof of acceptance to study at a recognized tertiary institution (on tertiary letterhead)
- Proof of residence from your Ward Councillor
- Parents’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ death certificate if deceased)
- Motivational letter
