Black Rock Mine Operations, owned by Assmang (Associated Manganese Mines of South Africa, Ltd) since 1940, is one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa. Located near Kuruman in the Northern Cape province, the mine primarily exports its production, with a portion allocated to the South African domestic market.
About the Assmang BRMO Bursary Programme
Assmang Pty Ltd – Manganese Division is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme at the Black Rock Mine Operations (BRMO) for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies in the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering Heavy Current
- Financial Accounting
- Geology
- Information Technology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mine Survey
- Mining Engineering
- Occupational Hygiene
Bursary Benefits
The bursary covers:

Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified within three weeks of the closing date.
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview and participate in a psychometric evaluation.
Eligibility Requirements
For Current Matric Students
- South African citizen
- Aged between 18 and 35
- Currently in Matric
- Achieve a Bachelor Pass/ University exemption in final Matric exams
- Intend to study full-time towards a qualification in one of the listed fields in 2025-2026
- Preference for students accepted to study at a university in one of the listed fields
- Preference for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Northern Cape
- Preference for students living with a disability
- Not receiving any other bursary funding or financial assistance from another institution
For Current University or University of Technology Students
- South African citizen
- Aged between 18 and 35
- Completed Matric
- Studying full-time towards a qualification in one of the listed fields
- Studying at a recognized university or University of Technology in South Africa
- In 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study
- Achieved a minimum average “B” symbol and passed all subjects
- Preference for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Northern Cape
- Preference for students living with a disability
- Not receiving any other bursary funding or financial assistance from another institution
