About Assmang Manganese: Black Rock Mine

Assmang Manganese’s Black Rock Mine Operations, a key manganese property in South Africa, has been owned by Assmang (Associated Manganese Mines of South Africa, Ltd) since 1940. The mine, located near Kuruman in the Northern Cape province, is one of the biggest manganese reserves in the country and globally, with over 70 million tonnes of manganese ore grading 39% manganese metal. The majority of its production is exported, with a smaller portion serving the South African domestic market.

Assmang BRMO Bursary Programme 2024-2025

Assmang Pty Ltd’s Manganese Division is offering a bursary programme at their Black Rock Mine Operations (BRMO) for the 2024 academic year. The bursaries are available for various fields of study:

Bursary Coverage and Selection Process

Eligibility Criteria

For current Matric students:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Age between 18 and 35 years.
  • Currently in Matric with a Bachelor Pass/ University exemption.
  • Intention to study full-time in one of the fields listed above in 2024-2025.
  • Preference for students accepted to study at a university in the listed fields.
  • Preference for students from disadvantaged backgrounds within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Northern Cape, and those living with a disability.
  • No other bursary funding or financial assistance from another company/institution.

For current University or University of Technology students:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Age between 18 and 35 years.
  • Completed Matric.
  • Full-time study towards a qualification in the listed fields.
  • Study at a South African University or University of Technology.
  • In 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year with a minimum “B” average and all subjects passed (including final year exams and university admission).
  • Preference for students from disadvantaged backgrounds within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Northern Cape, and those living with a disability.

Application Process

To apply for the Assmang Bursary:
