About the Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works (DPW) is a South African government ministry tasked with providing property management and accommodation services to other government ministries. The DPW’s strategic pillars focus on job creation, efficient asset management, parliamentary and government relations, stakeholder engagement, and property and construction industry regulation and transformation.
About the DPW Bursary Program
The DPW invests in its people by offering external bursary awards to deserving students pursuing fields relevant to its core business. Bursaries are available for the following fields:
- Architecture
- Construction Project Management
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Landscape Architecture
- Quantity Surveying
The DPW bursary covers tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation, and a monthly allowance.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the DPW Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- South African citizenship
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Studying or intending to study full-time in a field related to the DPW’s core business
- Strong academic record
- Demonstrated financial need
- Not employed by the Department of Public Works

To apply for the DPW Bursary, follow these steps:
- Download and complete the DPW Bursary Application Form in PDF format.
- Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your completed application form:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Latest academic records or progress reports (certified copies)
- Tertiary admission letter (on tertiary letterhead)
- Parents/guardians’ ID documents (certified copies)
- Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/affidavit if unemployed)
- Breakdown of tertiary fees per annum
- Certificate of good conduct (if applicable)
- Motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary

Closing Date
The closing date for applications is 30 April 2024-2025. Late submissions will not be accepted, so be sure to apply before the deadline.
