About Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA)
The Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) was established to safeguard, develop, conserve, manage, and control the country’s water resources. Its responsibilities encompass advising on proper water resource use and protection, crafting a catchment management strategy, coordinating water-related activities and institutions, and encouraging community engagement in water resource activities.
Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) Bursaries 2025-2026
IUCMA is offering bursaries to eligible students pursuing education in the following fields:
- BSc/B Degree in Environmental Science
- BSc Hydrology/Water Resource Management
- BSc Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Microbiology
- BSc Geohydrology, Geomorphology, and Botany
The bursary covers registration, tuition, examination fees, accommodation, meals, educational materials, and stipends.

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
To qualify for this bursary program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizen
- Resident of Mpumalanga Province (within IUCMA’s Water Management area)
- Certified Matric certificate with a minimum 65% average and proof of admission or provisional acceptance to study in one of the specified fields
- Enrolled or accepted at a recognized Institution of Higher Learning
- Intending to enroll or already enrolled in the mentioned fields
- If currently enrolled, academic records of the last study year with at least a 60% average
Applicants receiving bursaries or educational assistance from other sources are ineligible.
Application Procedure
Complete the IUCMA Bursary Application Form (PDF) and submit it with certified copies of the following documents:
- South African ID
- Matric certificate with a minimum 65% average
- Proof of admission, provisional acceptance, or current enrollment in the relevant degree program
- Academic records from the previous study year (if applicable)
- Proof of residence from Local Municipality or Headman/Chief
- Parent or guardian’s income proof with an SAPS affidavit

Successful students will sign a bursary contract as per external bursary policy. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and applicants not contacted within a month after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
