A contentious penalty call in South Africa’s loss to Ghana cost them a spot in the 2022 World Cup.

After losing 1-0 to Ghana on Monday at the Cape Coast Stadium, Bafana Bafana was unable to earn the necessary point to secure their spot in the African World Cup playoffs.

The Group G match was ultimately won by a penalty from Andre Ayew in the first half, however the officials’ first call to point to the spot seemed to be highly questionable.

Daniel Amartey of Ghana and Leicester City appeared to be in a good position to shoot from close range as the ball came down in the opponent’s penalty area from an out swinging corner.

It has already been acknowledged by the South African Football Association (SAFA).It will file a grievance with FIFA in an effort to have the game replayed.

Because it is not an isolated instance of a punishment, “We feel very much defrauded. There are just a lot of dubious decisions made by the match officials, and we will hire a professional to analyze other occurrences so we can present a convincing argument.

“Of course, we’re considering the precedent set by FIFA’s request that we rerun the Senegal match, and we believe that if justice needs to be done, the same action should be taken in regards to this game involving Ghana.”

The Senegalese referee Marguette Ndiaye was the subject of a complaint from the South African Football Association (SAFA) to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee after she gave Ghana a contentious penalty after Leicester City midfielder Daniel Sturridge was fouled.Rushine de Reuck, a South African defender who was issued a warning for his interference, made only slight touch with Amartey before the latter fell.

The SAFA demanded a rerun of the game and charged the Ghana Football Association with manipulating the outcome in its protest.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee rejected this, and FIFA acknowledged that the SAFA had violated three procedural requirements in their protest.

First, no written protest was submitted to the match commissioner. Second, the protest was not filed “timeously,” and FIFA added that the organization did not pay the protest fee.

The SAFA stated that they were debating whether or not to pursue their lawsuit.
