National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) Bursary

ABOUT THE COMPANY – NERSA

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is a regulatory authority responsible for overseeing and regulating the electricity, piped-gas, and petroleum pipelines industries in the country. NERSA consists of nine members, including part-time and full-time members, and is supported by a team of personnel under the guidance of the CEO.

ABOUT THE NERSA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED NERSA

is offering bursary funding for postgraduate students for the academic year. The bursary is open to students interested in pursuing a career in the energy sector.

Bursaries are available for studies towards a Master’s or Mid-PhD Degree in fields aligned with NERSA’s regulatory mandate, which includes the regulation of the electricity, piped-gas, and petroleum pipelines industries.

The bursary will cover the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, and prescribed books. The total value of the bursary will be determined based on a financial means test.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NERSA BURSARY

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying for the bursary (failure to meet all the requirements will result in the application being disqualified):

  • South African citizenship
  • Intention to pursue a Master’s or Mid-PhD Degree in one of the specified fields in
  • Acceptance to study at a South African university or university of technology
  • Strong academic record
  • Demonstrated potential for academic success
  • Previously disadvantaged background
  • Financial need
  • Not receiving any other bursary funding
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the energy sector

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NERSA BURSARY

Eligible students should apply by submitting clear copies of the following documents (submission of these documents is compulsory, and missing items may lead to disqualification):

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of full tertiary academic record of the highest completed qualification
  • Acceptance letter from a university or university of technology (on institution’s letterhead)
  • Dissertation topic and abstract
  • Motivational letter (approximately 500 words) explaining why the applicant should be awarded the bursary
  • Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
  • Proof of income for parents or guardians (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grant or pension if applicable)
