Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) Scholarships 2024-2025: Your Pathway to Excellence
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust invites aspiring students to apply for its scholarships for the upcoming academic year.
The trust offers three types of scholarships:
- OMT Scholarship for Postgraduate Local Studies: For postgraduate studies at the Masters and Doctoral level at accredited and recognized South African educational institutions.
- OMT Scholarship for Postgraduate International Studies: For postgraduate studies at the Masters and Doctoral level at international educational institutions.
- OMT Scholarship for Sabbatical Studies: For studies at public higher education institutions in South Africa.
While the scholarships do not provide full coverage, they contribute significantly to expenses. Renewal is based on academic performance.
For Postgraduate Local and International Studies, Master and Postgraduate students are eligible for two years of funding, and Ph.D. students are eligible for three years.

Eligibility Criteria: Paving the Way for Excellence
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for these scholarships:
- South African citizenship or permanent residency
- Pursuing a postgraduate qualification (excluding those already holding a degree at the same level)
- Enrollment at an accredited and recognized South African educational institution (for Postgraduate Local Studies)
- Enrolled in an advanced course unavailable in South Africa from an internationally recognized educational institution, with a commitment to benefiting South Africa (for Postgraduate International Studies)
- Full-time pursuit of sabbatical studies from a South African public higher education institution, with preference given to those with years of research and teaching experience (for Sabbatical Studies)

- Curriculum Vitae
- Completed academic transcripts (completed or in progress)
- Certified copies of degree certificates
- Proof of acceptance/registration from the institution (preferably on letterhead)
- Details of the intended study
- Estimated annual study expenses (using OMT Study Budget Template)
- Details of other applied funding
- Motivational letter (500-1000 words) detailing personal background, interests, philosophy, schooling, priorities, plans, and career goals
- Proof of income
- Three recommendation letters from individuals familiar with your study and work plans and attest to your achievements
- For Sabbatical Studies: Motivational letter (500 words) explaining your field of research, potential benefits, and your position after the sabbatical; also include a synopsis of 2-3 publications
