About the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust:
The Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust was established by the Oppenheimer family in honor of the late Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, a prominent figure in the diamond industry and founder of the Anglo American Corporation. The trust’s charitable mission is to assist students in funding their tertiary education.
Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, known for his success as a diamond entrepreneur, financier, and philanthropist, had a diamond named in his honor by Harry Winston, called the “Oppenheimer Diamond.”
About the Bursary Program:
The Ernest Oppenheimer bursary is designed for current Matric students who plan to pursue studies in Engineering, Geology, or Accounting at a recognized South African tertiary institution in the following year. Selection of recipients is based on academic performance and financial need.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- South African citizenship or South African permanent residency
- Demonstrated financial need for assistance with tertiary studies
- For students intending to study Engineering or Geology: a minimum level 6 for Mathematics and Science
- For students intending to study Accounting: a minimum level 6 for Mathematics
