About SACTWU Bursaries:
The South African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) offers a bursary fund to qualifying SACTWU members, their children, legally adopted children, and spouses who are studying at public universities and private institutions registered under the Department of Higher Education. The bursary covers 75% of fees up to a maximum of R35,000 per year, with the remaining costs to be covered by the student.
The bursary scheme was established in 1975 with contributions from members to support the education costs of their children and dependents. The bursary assists students pursuing tertiary education and provides an opportunity for higher learning.
SACTWU Bursary Requirements and Eligibility:
The SACTWU bursary is available to the following individuals:
- SACTWU qualified members
- Spouses of SACTWU qualified members
- Children/dependents and legally adopted children of SACTWU qualified members (not older than 25 years and not employed)
- SACTWU members must have paid up union fees as of July 31
- Must study at a tertiary institution registered with the Department of Higher Education (Universities, University of Technology, private institutions – not FET/TVET Colleges)
- Must inquire about NSFAS funding eligibility
Application Process:
To apply for the SACTWU Bursary, follow these steps:
- Download and complete the SACTWU Bursary Application Form 2025-2026 (PDF).
- Submit the completed application form along with the following certified copies of documents:
- Student’s ID
- Member’s ID
- ID-sized photo of the applicant
- Latest certified copy of member’s proof of income
- Statement of account from the institution
- Matriculation certificate (if applying for the 1st year of study or 1st-time applicant)
- Academic record for previous years of study (all years)
- Unabridged birth certificate indicating parents’ names
- Proof of guardianship (e.g., Letter from the Department of Social Development / Court Order)
- Marriage certificate of the member and spouse, and copies of their IDs
- Death certificate of student’s biological parents
- Proof of marriage and copies of IDs for member/spouse (if applying for spouse)
- Affidavit from member regarding employment status (if retrenched)
- Affidavit from the applicant regarding employment status (if studying part-time or through correspondence, including payslip if employed part-time/contract)
- Completed Application Form to join SASU (only applicable to child dependents)
Submit the completed application via:
