SANS Killie Campbell Bursary

The South African National Society (SANS), founded in 1905, aims to protect South Africa’s floral heritage and rock art. One of their initiatives is the Killie Campbell Bursary, established in honor of Dr. Killie Campbell, a historian and collector. The bursary is awarded to postgraduate students studying history-related topics in a South African university, particularly those related to KwaZulu Natal history.

Bursary Details:

The Killie Campbell Bursary for the 2025-2026 academic year offers an amount of R25,000. The bursary may be awarded in two halves, with half given at an SANS monthly meeting in September 2025-2026 and the remaining half awarded 6 months later upon satisfactory submission of the applicant’s dissertation.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Killie Campbell Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a postgraduate student studying a history-related topic.
  • The dissertation or research topic should be related to South African history, preferably KwaZulu Natal history.
  • The student’s university must be accredited and recognized in South Africa.
