About The SBF (Students For A Better Future):
The SBF, which stands for Students For A Better Future, is a high school scholarship program founded and funded by the Andreas and Susan Struengmann Foundation in 2007. This foundation aims to support educational initiatives in the Western Cape of South Africa. In addition to the high school scholarship program, the foundation also funds the Disa Primary School in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay, and the Sue Struengmann Initiative at the University of Cape Town (UCT). The foundation’s mission is to nurture well-rounded, goal-oriented individuals who will contribute to the future of South Africa and become global citizens.
SBF High School Scholarship for 2025:
SBF is offering high school scholarships for students studying in grade 6 who have demonstrated excellent academic records and come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Selected students will be placed in one of the partner schools affiliated with SBF.

Scholarship Coverage:
The SBF high school scholarship covers the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Allowance for books and stationery
- Uniform allowance
- Sports equipment
- School trips allowance
- Academic support and guidance
- Transport allowance (conditional)
- Boarding house accommodation (conditional)
After completing high school, scholarship recipients will also have the opportunity to participate in the postsecondary program, which includes financial support, personal coaching, psychosocial guidance, academic guidance, and engagement with strategic partners and stakeholders. Please note that candidates must have an overall average score of 65% in their Matric to be eligible for the post-secondary program.
Eligibility Criteria of the Scholarship:
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the scholarship:
- Must be in grade 6 in 2024-2025.
- Must be in grade 8 in 2025.
- Must have achieved an average of 60% on their Grade 5 final exams.
- Must have obtained a minimum of 60% in Mathematics in their Grade 5 final exams.
- Must have obtained a minimum of 60% in English in their Grade 5 final exams.
- Must achieve an average of 60% in term 2 assessments of grade 6.
- The SBF Newlands Office must be within 25 kilometers of their Cape Town residence (Letterstedt House Newlands on Main, Newlands).
- Must demonstrate financial need with a household income of NO MORE THAN R17,000 (for households with one child), R20,000 (for households with two children), or R23,000 (for households with three or more children).
How to Apply for the Scholarship:
To apply for the SBF High School Scholarship for 2025, complete the online application form on the SBF High School Scholarship 2025 portal.
Documents Required:
Applicants should attach the following documents to their application:
- Certified copy of the birth certificate.
- Certified copy of study visa for students without South African citizenship.
- Final report of fifth grade.
- Final report of 1 term of sixth grade.
- Certified copy of valid ID documents of parents or guardians.
- Certified copy of visa of parents or guardians or residential proof (for South African citizens).
- Proof of household income of parents or guardians.
- Payslips/employment letter (if currently employed).
- Affidavit (if self-employed).
- Proof of SASSA grant or pension.
- An essay of 350 words answering the question: “What would you wish for and why if you were granted three wishes?”
Closing Date of the Scholarship:
The application deadline for the SBF High School Scholarship is August 31, 2024-2025. Late applications will not be accepted, so candidates should ensure they complete their applications before the deadline.
