ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – SANSOR
The South African National Seed Organization (SANSOR) was established in 1989 to serve as a formal and strategic body for the local seed industry. SANSOR’s main objective is to protect and advance the interests of the seed trade in South Africa. Over the years, the South African seed industry has transformed into a competitive and dynamic industry.
ABOUT THE SANSOR BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
SANSOR is offering bursaries for postgraduate degree studies (Honours, Masters, or Doctorate) within the seed industry for the 2023 academic year. The bursary aims to provide financial assistance to deserving postgraduate students conducting high-quality scientific research in various areas related to the seed industry. These areas include Agronomy, Biotechnology, Entomology, Genetics, Horticulture, Molecular Plant Biology, Pasture Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, and Plant Physiology.
MORE ABOUT THE SANSOR BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION
Bursaries are awarded based on academic merit, and recipients are initially granted funding for one year. Renewal of funding for further years of study is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance. In addition to financial support, bursary recipients will have the opportunity to attend workshops to develop employment skills, go on field trips to seed companies to gain insights into the seed industry, and network with professionals in the field.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SANSOR BURSARY
To be eligible for the SANSOR bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- South African citizenship (by birth)
- Completion of an undergraduate degree
- Registration to study a postgraduate degree (Honours, Masters, or Doctorate) within the seed industry in 2023
- Registration at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- Pursuit of a study subject that aligns with SANSOR’s vision and mission and is advantageous to the seed industry
- Not in receipt of any other government funding (applicants must inform SANSOR of all other government funding received)

Download and complete the SANSOR Bursary Application Form 2023, available in PDF format. Submit the completed application form and the required supporting documents via email to the provided addresses. The application form includes a field to indicate that you learned about the SANSOR bursary through https://uni24.co.za/
CLOSING DATE FOR THE SANSOR BURSARY
The closing date for applications is 30 September. It is important to submit your application before this date to be considered.
