TETA (Transport Education Training Authority) provides bursaries to students specializing in transport-related fields of study. This bursary program aims to support individuals pursuing careers in various sectors related to transportation, including engineering, aviation, logistics, and more. TETA collaborates with the South African Department of Transport to ensure that skilled professionals can contribute to the country’s substantial transport industry.

Bursary Coverage:

The TETA Bursary provides coverage for the following costs:

  • Prescribed textbooks
  • Tuition fees
  • Approved on- or off-campus accommodation
  • Meals
  • Transport

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the TETA Bursary:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years of age.
  • Must be currently unemployed.
  • Must have completed Matric or be currently enrolled in Matric (or an equivalent).
  • Must be currently studying or intend to study full-time in one of the eligible fields of study mentioned above.
  • Must be studying or have registered to study at an accredited tertiary institution, including HETs, Accredited Aviation Schools, or Accredited Diving Schools.
  • For applicants pursuing Commercial Pilot Training, they must possess a valid Private Pilot License.
  • For applicants pursuing Instrument or Instructor’s Rating, they must possess a valid Commercial Pilot License.
  • Must have a good academic record with an average of at least 50%.
  • Students with disabilities or those from disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • Must not be currently funded by any other sponsor or TETA program.
  • For Commercial Diving students, they must be 18 years old or older, able to swim, and proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.

Required Documents:

Applicants should submit clear copies of the following documents along with their completed application form:

  • Certified Grade 11/12 Statement of Results/Matric Certificate
  • Certified ID copy of the applicant
  • Certified ID copies of parents/guardian
  • Certified copy of the death certificate (in case of a deceased parent/s)
  • Proof of income (payslip) or an affidavit (if parents are unemployed) or proof of SASSA grant
  • Proof of application for study at an Institution of Higher Learning, diving school, or flying school (if the acceptance letter is not yet received)
  • Acceptance letter from the Institution of Higher Learning, diving school, or flying school
  • For TVET students (previously known as FET Colleges), certified Senior Certificate and intent to study from (N4-N6)
  • For undergraduate/postgraduate students, certified copy of the highest qualification or official results if applying for the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year
  • Quotations for tuition fees, accommodation, if applicable
  • Financial statement indicating the status quo of the learner’s account

The closing date for the TETA Bursary application is 23 August , at 23:59.
