About Tronox:
Tronox is a leading global mining company specializing in the extraction and processing of various minerals, including zircon and titanium ore. The company produces titanium dioxide pigments used to enhance the brightness and durability of products such as plastics, paper, and paints. Tronox places a strong emphasis on sustainability and safety, striving to bring value to customers, shareholders, and business partners through its diverse and committed global workforce.
One of Tronox’s Sands Operations is located in KwaZulu-Natal, with its Central Processing Complex in Empangeni and the Fairbreeze Mine in Mtunzini. The Fairbreeze Mine employs hydraulic mining techniques to extract heavy mineral concentrate (HMC), which is then transported to the Mineral Separation Plant in Empangeni. This plant produces rutile, zircon, and ilmenite, contributing significantly to the country’s economy and providing employment for 694 individuals.
About the Tronox Bursary:
Tronox is offering bursaries for the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursaries will cover tuition fees, book fees, accommodation expenses, and meal allowances for undergraduate degree studies (B Eng/ BSc/ B Tech) in various fields, including Accounting, Chemical Engineering, Geology, and more. Bursary recipients will also have opportunities for practical work and exciting career prospects.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the Tronox Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Enrollment or intent to enroll in one of the specified fields
- Matriculation or current enrollment in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year
- Enrollment or intent to enroll at a recognized and accredited South African institution
- Minimum Matric results of Level 6 for Mathematics and Science and Level 5 for English (if not yet studying)
- Minimum overall average of 65% in the most recent studies (if currently studying)
- Preference for students from the Saldanha and Matzikama municipal areas
