ABOUT THE UCT INTERNATIONAL AND REFUGEE SCHOLARSHIP – FIELDS COVERED

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is offering a limited number of scholarships for international and refugee students for the academic year. The scholarship is open to postgraduate students (Honours, Masters, or Doctoral) in any field of study at UCT.

The UCT International and Refugee Scholarship is intended to supplement the student’s Cost of Attendance, and students are expected to have additional means to fund their studies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UCT INTERNATIONAL AND REFUGEE SCHOLARSHIP

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be an international student with a valid passport OR a refugee with valid refugee papers
  • Have applied or been accepted to study at the University of Cape Town
  • Be pursuing full-time studies towards an Honours, Masters, or Doctoral qualification
  • Complete the qualification within the minimum required time
  • Be studying for their first postgraduate qualification (funding will not be awarded for a second degree at the same or lower level)
  • Have achieved a minimum of 55% for major subjects
  • Not be employed on a full-time basis (not working more than 20 hours per week)

It is important to note that certain programs and degree types are excluded from the scholarship funding.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UCT INTERNATIONAL AND REFUGEE SCHOLARSHIP

Interested applicants should download and complete the UCT International and Refugee Scholarship Application form. Renewal applicants should complete the UCT Form 10F.

The application must include clear copies of the required supporting documentation, including a passport or refugee papers, academic referee reports, academic transcripts, research proposal (for Master’s or Doctoral applicants), curriculum vitae, and other relevant documents. All documents should be compiled into one PDF file in the specified order.

Completed applications must be submitted electronically via email to generalfunding@uct.ac.za. The subject line of the email should include “International & Refugee APPLICATION,” followed by the applicant’s first name, surname, and student number.

CLOSING DATE FOR THE UCT INTERNATIONAL AND REFUGEE SCHOLARSHIP

The closing date for applications is 31 August . It is advisable to submit the application before the deadline to ensure consideration.
