About West Coast District Municipality:

The West Coast District Municipality (WCDM) is located in the Western Cape province of South Africa, with its seat in Moorreesburg. WCDM consists of five local municipalities: Saldanha Bay, Bergrivier Local, Matzikama Local, Cederberg Local, and Swartland. The primary purpose of WCDM is to share responsibility with local governments to ensure that communities within the area have access to services and resources.

West Coast District Municipality Bursary 2025-2026:

The West Coast District Municipality, in partnership with the Department of the Western Cape, is inviting students residing within the West Coast Municipal area to apply for bursary funding for the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursaries are available to full-time students specializing in specific undergraduate degree (NQF6 or NQF7) or National Diploma (NQF6) fields of study, provided they have been accepted by a South African University or University of Technology.

  • Human Resource Management / Development
  • ICT (Information and Communications Technology)
  • Internal Auditing
  • Public Administration / Management
  • Risk Management
  • Supply Chain Management

Each bursary has a maximum value of R50,000, excluding accommodation costs. Bursaries may be awarded for up to three (3) years, contingent on satisfactory performance. After completing their studies, bursary recipients are required to enroll in the internship program at the West Coast District Municipality.

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility:

Before applying for the bursary, interested applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Parents or guardians must reside in the West Coast region.
  • Intending to study full-time in one of the specified fields.
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Provisionally accepted or accepted to study at an accredited South African University or University of Technology.
  • From a historically disadvantaged background or have a disability.
  • Minimum of 40% in Mathematics or 50% in Mathematical Literacy will be considered.
  • Average mark of 60% or higher, or an average mark of 50% or higher with a Mathematics mark of 60% or higher.

Failure to meet these requirements may result in the application being disregarded.

How to Apply:

To apply for the West Coast District Municipality Bursary, follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete the West Coast District Municipality Bursary Application Form (PDF).
  2. Along with the application form, submit clear copies of the following documents:
    • Certified copy of ID document.
    • Certified copy of Matric certificate or Matric final results (if applicable).
    • Proof of provisional acceptance by a tertiary institution (on institutional letterhead).
    • Proof of tertiary registration fees (on institutional letterhead).
    • Proof of permanent residential address.
    • Certified copy of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents.
    • Proof of household income (3 most recent payslips if employed, or certified copy or sworn affidavit if unemployed).
    • Affidavit of guardianship (if not living with parents).
    • Certified copies of ID documents of any other dependents in the household.
    • A motivational letter (max 1000 words) in the applicant’s own handwriting on a separate sheet of paper, explaining their motivation for studying their chosen field and why they believe they should receive the bursary.

Closing Date:

The application deadline is 31 October at 12:00. Applications must be completed and submitted before the closing date.
