Aberdeen is a tiny town in the Sarah Baartman District Municipality of South Africa’s Eastern Cape region. It is one of the Karoo’s architectural protection regions, including various examples of Victorian buildings. The village is located 55 kilometers south of Graaff-Reinet, 155 kilometers east of Beaufort West, and 32 kilometers south of the Camdeboo Mountains. It was founded in 1856 on the estate Brakkefontein as a Dutch Reformed Church colony, and it became a municipality in 1858.
