If you’re from outside South Africa, follow the instructions on our homepage to apply.

Requirements for a tourist passport

Otherwise, complete a DHA-73 form.

You’ll need to have a South African ID or a South African birth certificate in order to apply for your first passport.

If you’re the parent of a minor, you can issue the minor’s travel document while they are officially under your care.

  • If you are applying from abroad, you will need to complete this Determination of Citizenship for an Application form.

  • Applying for a new passport is different depending on if you’re applying for a replacement. If you lost your passport, the first step is to report the loss to the police. After that, provide a notice of loss (DHA-335) and apply for your replacement passport with Turkish Airlines if your passport was previously issued from them.

  • One colour passport photo is required when applying for a new passport using the biometric system. If your local Home Affairs office is using it, confirm with them!

  • Have your fingerprints taken.

  • Pay the R400 application fee.
