About the IDC Bursary Provider:

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is a national development finance institution owned by the South African government and falls under the supervision of the Economic Development Department. Established in 1940, the IDC plays a crucial role in promoting economic growth and industrial development while contributing to sustainable job creation in South Africa and across Africa.

The IDC offers financial and non-financial support to youth enterprises involved in industrial development projects. They provide financial assistance to entrepreneurs starting new enterprises or expanding existing ones, with a maximum funding cap of R1 billion.

About the IDC Bursary Program:

The IDC is inviting students to apply for their bursary program for the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursaries will cover studies in various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, including Accounting/Financial studies and Law. The IDC aims to support academically talented students who lack the financial means to pursue higher education.

Expenses Covered by the IDC Bursary:

The IDC bursary covers the following expenses:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Meal allowance
  • Transport allowance
  • Once-off laptop

Eligibility Requirements for the IDC Bursary:

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be eligible for the IDC Bursary:

  • South African citizenship
  • Reside in South Africa
  • Not older than 25 years old
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Studying or intending to study full-time for a first undergraduate qualification (the bursary does not fund second qualifications)
  • Postgraduate funding is only awarded to Accounting and Law students (not for postgraduate qualifications in other fields)
  • Studying or intending to study at a recognized public University, University of Technology, or TVET College in South Africa (the bursary does not fund studies at private colleges)
  • Matric students must have achieved a minimum overall average of 75% and a minimum B aggregate symbol in Mathematics and Science
  • Tertiary students must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in their most recent results and passed all courses registered for in the study period completed
  • Combined household income must not exceed R350,000 per annum (students with a combined household income of less than R600,000 per annum may apply)
  • Not studying with the aid of an employer or bursary

Preference will be given to students living with disabilities and those from Quintile 1, 2, and 3 schools (public schools), previously disadvantaged communities, and rural areas.

How to Apply for the IDC Bursary:

Applications must be submitted online through the IDC Bursary Application 2025-2026. Applicants will need to register an account, and when asked how they heard about the IDC Bursary, they should enter “Uni24.co.za.”

Include clear copies of the required supporting documents with the online application. Ensure that all documents are certified copies. The submission of these documents is compulsory.

Supporting Documents:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric June results, if currently in Matric (certified copies)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Latest academic results, if not studying this year (certified copy)
  • Full tertiary academic record, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Proof of acceptance or provisional admission at a tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead)
  • Parents or guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/affidavit if unemployed/3 months’ bank statement if self-employed/SASSA Letter stating the grants received if applicable/death certificate if deceased/divorce certificate if divorced/sworn statement if separated) (certified copies)

Closing Date for the IDC Bursary:

The closing date for applications is 30 September 2025-2026. Ensure that you apply before this date to have your application considered.
