Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) Bursary 2025-2026

ABOUT THE COMPANY – MISA

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA), a sector of the South African government, is responsible for supporting and contributing to developing technical capacity towards sustained accelerated municipal infrastructure and service delivery.

MISA’s mandate includes:

  1. Providing municipalities with support in conducting effective infrastructure, in order to achieve sustainable service delivery.
  2. Providing municipalities with support and assistance in operating and maintaining municipal infrastructures.
  3. Providing municipalities with support and assistance in implementing infrastructure projects per the municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs).
  4. Building municipalities’ capacity to ensure effective planning, delivery, operations, and management of municipal infrastructure.

ABOUT THE MISA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Students are invited to apply for the MISA Technical Bursary Scheme, which supports studies within the Built Environment sector. Students studying or planning to study one of the following fields in the 2025-2026 academic year may apply for bursary funding:

  • Civil Engineering (Degree or National Diploma)
  • Electrical Engineering (Degree or National Diploma)
  • Environmental Management (Degree or National Diploma)
  • Project and Construction Management / Studies (Degree or National Diploma)
  • Urban and Regional Planning / Town and Regional Planning (Degree or National Diploma)

MORE ABOUT THE MISA BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

The MISA bursary will cover the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, prescribed materials, meals, and accommodation.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted, and if you do not receive any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MISA BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizenship
  • Completed Matric
  • Registered to study one of the aforementioned fields for the 2025-2026 academic year
  • Registered for the 1st or 2nd year of study in 2025-2026
  • Registered and accepted to study at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or TVET)
  • Total household income of less than R120,000 per year
  • Matriculants: Meet the minimum requirements for your field of study
  • Current tertiary students: Passed all requirements to progress to the 2nd year of study
  • Preference will be given to students from rural areas
  • Students with disabilities and youth from previously disadvantaged areas are encouraged to apply

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE MISA BURSARY

  1. Download and complete the MISA Bursary Application Form (.pdf).
  2. Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form:
    • ID document (certified copy)
    • Matric certificate (certified copy)
    • Certificate of any other qualification completed (certified copy)
    • Proof of registration at a recognized tertiary institution for the 2025-2026 academic year (on tertiary letterhead)
    • Full academic record for 1st year of study if currently studying and entering the 2nd year (certified copy)
    • Financial record or statement of your account from your institution (on tertiary letterhead)
    • Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/affidavit if unemployed)

Please note that faxed, hand-delivered, and posted applications will NOT be considered.

20 June 2025-2026 (at 16:30). (Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted – please apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.)
