About AGSA (Auditor-General of South Africa):

The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) is the supreme audit institution of South Africa, established in 1911. Its primary responsibility is to audit and report on how the South African government utilizes taxpayer funds. AGSA conducts annual audits and provides audit reports on government departments, public entities, municipalities, and public institutions. In addition to regular audits, AGSA also conducts discretionary audits, performance audits, and other special audits.

AGSA Bursaries 2025-2026:

AGSA offers a bursary scheme to support South African citizens who wish to pursue Chartered Accountancy degrees. The bursary covers various expenses, including tuition fees, university accommodation fees (with meals), a living allowance, and a book allowance. Bursary recipients are required to serve articles with AGSA for a minimum of 3 years upon completing their studies.

AGSA Bursary Requirements and Eligibility:

General Qualifications:

  • Full-time students pursuing Chartered Accountancy fields such as BCom Accounting CA stream, Bachelor of Accounting CA stream, and BCompt at a SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) accredited university.
  • Only South African citizens are eligible.
  • Bursary holders must commit to serving articles or entering into a training contract with AGSA after completing their studies as per the bursary contract.

Skills Required:

  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Initiative, determination, and dedication to succeed.
  • Strong leadership ability.

Specific Requirements for Different Academic Levels:

Matric Students (Applying for 1st Year):

  • Matric exemption and university acceptance.
  • Minimum 60% in English and Mathematics (not Maths literacy).

1st-Year Students (Applying for 2nd Year):

  • Minimum 60% in Financial Accounting.
  • Minimum 60% or above in Maths and English in Matric.
  • Pursuing a Chartered Accountancy program.

2nd-Year Students (Applying for 3rd Year):

  • Minimum 60% or above in Financial Accounting and Management Accounting.
  • Pursuing the Chartered Accountancy program.

Final-Year Students (Applying for POSTGRADUATE Studies):

  • Minimum 55% or above in all core modules of the Chartered Accountancy program.
  • Must obtain acceptance into the CTA (Certificate in the Theory of Accounting) program.

  • Applicants are required to register an account before logging in and completing the application process.
  • Along with the online application form, submit clear copies of the necessary supporting documents.
  • Ensure that the uploaded documents are in PDF format and do not exceed 2MB in size.
  • If the requested academic records are unavailable, apply with the last highest completed academic results.

Closing Date:

The application deadline for the AGSA bursary is 15 October (extended date).
