Canon Collins Tom Queba Scholarship

About Canon Collins Trust and Tom Queba Memorial Fund Scholarship:

Canon Collins Trust has been providing scholarships since 1981 to students from southern African countries. They have supported over 4,000 scholars from 14 countries, offering undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for study in South Africa, the UK, Ireland, and Malawi. Their aim is to empower individuals through education and support students in various fields of study.

Tom Queba was a prominent figure in the George taxi industry who passed away in 2014. He was dedicated to improving public transport and the future of the minibus taxi industry in George. The Tom Queba Memorial Fund and Tom Queba Engineering Scholarship for Social Change were established in his memory.

Canon Collins Tom Queba Scholarship Program:

Canon Collins Trust, in partnership with the Tom Queba Memorial Fund, is offering scholarships for the 2023 academic year to exceptional students pursuing postgraduate studies (Masters or Doctoral) in fields related to social change. The eligible areas of study include:

  • Education
  • Humanities and the Arts
  • Justice
  • Sciences and Applied Sciences

The scholarship value is R85,000, and recipients will receive funding for a maximum period of 2 years. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to participate in organized events to enhance their academic and leadership skills.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the Canon Collins Tom Queba Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African national
  • Black female
  • Reside in South Africa
  • Completed a first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent), or will graduate in
  • Intending to pursue a Masters or doctoral qualification in the specified fields
  • Studying or intending to study full-time or part-time (distance learning may also be considered)
  • Studying or have applied to study at a university in South Africa
  • Willingness to participate in an annual conference and various small events throughout the year
  • Proposed study must contribute to social and/or environmental development and improve the lives and livelihoods of the poorest people in South Africa
