Flare and Google Cloud Partner for $100K AI Hackathon at UC Berkeley

Developers to Compete in Groundbreaking Blockchain-AI Event Integrating Google Cloud’s Confidential Compute

Flare (FLR), a leading Layer-1 data network, is joining forces with Google Cloud to host the Verifiable AI Hackathon at UC Berkeley from March 7-9. With a $100,000 prize pool, the competition aims to push the boundaries of AI and blockchain integration, marking a major milestone in decentralized technology.

A Game-Changer for AI and Blockchain Collaboration

The Verifiable AI Hackathon will challenge developers to build AI applications that leverage both off-chain processing and blockchain verification. Flare’s Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) will allow AI tasks to be processed securely while maintaining blockchain transparency.

  • $60,000 allocated for in-person participants at California Memorial Stadium
  • $40,000 set aside for virtual participants via DoraHacks
  • Google Cloud’s Confidential Compute will be available for secure, decentralized AI experimentation

Google Cloud emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating:
“This hackathon represents a groundbreaking initiative as we combine Google Cloud’s Confidential Compute technology with blockchain for the first time. It’s an exciting opportunity to explore how verifiable AI can reshape industries and drive innovation.”

Hackathon Tracks: Where AI Meets Blockchain

Developers will compete in four specialized tracks, each tackling different use cases of AI and blockchain integration:

1️⃣ Social AI Agents – AI models that mimic human interaction
2️⃣ RAG Knowledge Systems – AI working with structured data for real-time decision-making
3️⃣ DeFAI (DeFi x AI) – Integrating AI into decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols
4️⃣ Consensus Learning – AI models trained in decentralized networks

A Growing Partnership Between Flare and Google Cloud

This hackathon is part of a broader collaboration between Flare and Google Cloud, which began in January 2024, when Google Cloud became a validator and data provider for Flare. Flare CEO Hugo Philion noted that the partnership is setting “new standards in the intersection of blockchain and confidential computing.”

Final Thoughts: A Pioneering Step for Decentralized AI

With blockchain and AI innovation accelerating, the Flare-Google Cloud hackathon is shaping up to be a must-watch event for developers, investors, and tech enthusiasts. As AI continues to integrate into blockchain ecosystems, this initiative could pave the way for transformative decentralized applications across multiple industries.

📅 Mark your calendars: March 7-9, 2025 – The future of Verifiable AI is being built at UC Berkeley.
