About the Motsepe Foundation:
The Motsepe Foundation, founded by Patrice and Precious Motsepe, became the first family in Africa to join The Giving Pledge. The Giving Pledge is a global commitment by the wealthiest individuals and families to donate the majority of their wealth to philanthropy. Established by Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, this initiative aims to address social issues through significant charitable giving. The Motsepe family has pledged to donate at least half of their wealth to benefit those living in poverty, the unemployed, and marginalized individuals in South Africa.
The foundation’s primary objective is to enhance the living conditions of individuals facing poverty and marginalization in the country. This mission is achieved through various projects and initiatives designed to empower beneficiaries to become self-sufficient and independent.
Motsepe Foundation Bursary Program:
The Motsepe Foundation offers bursaries in a wide range of fields to support South African students in their pursuit of higher education. These fields of study include:

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the Motsepe Foundation Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Minimum average of 70% in Matric (excluding Life Orientation)
- Studying or intending to study in one of the mentioned fields
- Enrollment or intention to enroll at a recognized South African tertiary institution
- Strong academic performance
- Demonstrated financial need
How to Apply:

- Submit clear copies of the required supporting documentation along with your completed application form. It’s essential to include all necessary documents, as any missing items may result in the disqualification of your application. The required documents include:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric mid-year results (if currently in Matric, certified copy)
- Matric certificate (if you have completed Matric, certified copy)
- Full academic record (if currently at the tertiary level, certified copy)
- Proof of residence (certified copy)
- ID documents of parents or guardians (certified copies)
- ID documents of other household members (certified copies)
- Proof of parents’ or guardians’ income (latest payslips, employment letter, SASSA grant letter, affidavit for informal traders, death certificate if deceased, etc. – more details are available on the application form)
Additional documents will be required in the later stages of the bursary selection process, including final matric results, a university acceptance letter or proof of registration, student number, and a fees statement (if currently enrolled at the tertiary level).
