ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – POTATOES SOUTH AFRICA (PSA)
Potatoes South Africa (PSA) is an organization dedicated to serving, promoting, and protecting the interests of the potato industry in South Africa. The PSA Board of Directors ensures that the interests of potato producers and the overall potato industry are served effectively.
The Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT) was established by PSA in 2004 to provide funding to students pursuing agricultural studies. The trust aims to ensure a continuous supply of skilled employees to the potato industry in the country.
ABOUT THE POTATOES SA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
Potatoes South Africa (PSA) is offering bursary funding for the academic year in the following fields:
Undergraduate studies: Agricultural fields such as Agricultural Production, Agronomy, Plant Production, and Soil Science. Postgraduate studies: Honours, Masters, or PhD with a focus on a Potato-related topic.

MORE ABOUT THE POTATOES SA BURSARY PROGRAMME – OTHER OPPORTUNITIES & SELECTION
Selected students will have the opportunity to participate in an internship and workplace experience program to enhance their skills and improve their employment prospects. After completing their studies, bursary recipients are required to work for a potato-industry related organization, company, or institution for a period equivalent to the duration of their bursary award.
Shortlisted applicants will be notified by 28 February . If applicants do not receive any feedback by this date, their application should be considered unsuccessful.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POTATOES SA BURSARY
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible for the Potatoes SA bursary: Undergraduate students:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric
- Full-time study in an Agricultural field listed above (entering 2nd year or higher)
- Study at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution
- Strong academic record
Postgraduate students:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric
- Full-time study in Honours, Masters, or PhD with a focus on a Potato-related topic
- Study at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution
- Strong academic record
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE POTATOES SA BURSARY
Download and complete the relevant bursary application form:
- Undergraduate studies: PIDT Bursary Application Form (Undergraduate) (.docx)
- Postgraduate studies: PIDT Bursary Application Form (Postgraduate) (.docx)
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with the completed application form:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Qualification certificates (certified copies)
- Latest academic transcripts/records (on institution’s letterhead)
- Admission letter from the tertiary institution (on institution’s letterhead)
- Any additional relevant documents
Applications must be submitted via email to the Bursary Department: bursaries1@potatoes.co.za with the subject line “Potatoes SA Bursary Application” and specify whether it is for “Undergraduate” or “Postgraduate.”
CLOSING DATE FOR THE POTATOES SA BURSARY
The closing date for applications is 31 October. Late applications will not be accepted.
