About The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL):
The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) is an independent company with the South African government, represented by its Minister of Transport, as its sole shareholder. SANRAL’s primary mandate is to finance, expand, improve, and maintain South Africa’s national road network. While the country has a significant existing road infrastructure, there is a growing demand on the road system, necessitating upgrades while ensuring the integrity of existing roads. SANRAL focuses on the country’s arterial highways, including those facilitating travel in and around major cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Durban. As part of its social responsibility program, SANRAL offers bursaries and financial assistance to high school learners and tertiary students.
SANRAL Bursary 2025-2026:
SANRAL is dedicated to supporting deserving students in fields related to transportation infrastructure, engineering, the built environment, smart technologies, public sector infrastructure development and administration, and other professions relevant to SANRAL’s core business. Each year, SANRAL offers bursaries to develop the skill sets of students in the Civil Engineering industry.
The South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd invites eligible candidates to apply for the External Bursary for the 2025-2026 Academic year. The funding is available for full-time Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in the following areas:
- Civil Engineering
- Human Resources
- Supply Chain Management
Bursary Coverage:
The SANRAL bursaries cover various expenses based on the type of bursary:
For Full Bursary:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Study material and equipment
- Food
For Partial Bursary:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Access to a wellness program
For Future Plans:
- Tutoring services
- Learner’s and driver’s license
SANRAL Bursary Requirements And Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must NOT be older than 35 years of age.
- University students must have a 60% overall average.
- Must be currently registered or plan to register for studies at a recognized Tertiary Education institution in South Africa.
- For Matric students, a minimum of 70% in Mathematics, English, and Physical Science is required.
- For 1st-year university students, a minimum of 70% in Mathematics and Science is required.
- Those currently pursuing a Civil Engineering degree qualification may also apply.
- Preference is given to disadvantaged students who have completed their 1st year of study (undergraduates) or students registered for their 2nd to 4th year (postgraduate students).
- Must not have failed any modules or subjects in the current year of study.
- Must not be currently receiving financial assistance or bursary funding from another institution.
Failure to meet these requirements will result in the application being disregarded.

Applications must be submitted online by visiting the SANRAL Bursary Application 2025-2026.
Applicants must submit clear copies of the following documents along with the completed application form:
Letters Of Motivation:
- A one-page letter from yourself introducing yourself and explaining why you want to become a SANRAL bursary holder.
Certified Copies Of:
- High school results for Term 1 & 2
- University Results: Full academic record from the current tertiary institution
- Proof of tertiary registration
- Your ID document or birth certificate (must be a South African citizen)
- Your parents’ ID documents
- Proof of residence: Your parents’ or guardians’ water and electricity bill from the local council
- Additional Requirement: Proof of income or a sworn affidavit (if parents are self-employed in the informal sector or work from home, submit an affidavit regarding their earnings).
Applications missing any of these documents will be disregarded.
Closing Date:
The application deadline for the SANRAL Bursary is September 30.

- SANRAL’s bursaries are awarded based on academic performance and financial need, as determined by SANRAL’s Bursary Policy’s requirements.

- SANRAL may use other applicable conditions when making the final decision on granting the bursary.
- Successful candidates will be notified by January 31 at the latest. Applicants who do not receive any feedback by this date should consider their application unsuccessful.
