ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – SASOL AGRICULTURE TRUST
The Sasol Agriculture Trust was established by Sasol in 2012 with the aim of improving the sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural industry in South Africa. The trust provides support for enterprise development projects, emerging farmers, and initiatives that focus on education and training in the agricultural industry.
ABOUT THE SASOL AGRICULTURE TRUST BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The Sasol Agriculture Trust is offering bursaries for postgraduate studies (Masters and Doctoral) in the agricultural industry for the 2023 academic year. The bursaries cover various fields of study related to agriculture, including Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Meteorology, Biometry, Conservation Agriculture, Data Science, Food Sciences, Livestock Science, Molecular Biology, Plant Biochemistry, Plant Breeding, Plant Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Plant Virology, Precision Agriculture, Seed Applied Technologies, Soil Microbiology, Soil Science, Weed Science, and other related fields.
ABOUT THE SASOL AGRICULTURE TRUST BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE & PAYMENT
The value of the bursary depends on the level of study. MSc/Masters by Dissertation students will receive funding up to R99,750 per annum for 2 years, while PhD/Doctoral Research students will receive funding up to R131,250 per annum for 3 years. Bursary funds will be paid out according to the approved progress reports submitted by the bursary recipient and their supervisor, with the first installment to be paid in January 2023.
ABOUT THE SASOL AGRICULTURE TRUST BURSARY PROGRAMME – SERVICE CONTRACT & SELECTION
After graduation, bursary recipients are required to work within the South African agricultural industry for a period equal to the duration of the bursary received. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for telephonic interviews, and successful applicants will be notified within 8 weeks of the application closing date. If no feedback is received within this time frame, the application should be regarded as unsuccessful.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SASOL AGRICULTURE TRUST BURSARY
To be eligible for the Sasol Agriculture Trust bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Completed Matric
- Full-time study towards a Masters or Doctoral qualification relevant to the South African agricultural industry
- Study or enrollment at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution
- Not receiving any other funding or bursary awards (unless agreed to by the Trust)
- Intention to conduct a dissertation/thesis approved by the Trust
- Willingness to work within the South African agricultural industry after completing studies
- Agreement to the Sasol Agriculture Trust Bursary conditions, policies, and procedures
- Agreement to the terms of the Legal Undertaking (Section E) on the application form
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SASOL AGRICULTURE TRUST BURSARY
Applications must be submitted online through the Sasol Agriculture Trust Bursary Application for . Required supporting documents include a certified copy of the ID document or Passport (not older than 3 months), a color ID photo, Curriculum Vitae, proof of tertiary registration and fee statement, full tertiary academic record with latest results, details of proposed research including a working research title and description, and a motivational letter supporting the application.

The closing date for applications is 30 September. It is important to submit the application before the closing date to ensure consideration.
