South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) Bursary 2024-2025

About SACAP

The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing professionals in the architectural sector of South Africa. Established under the Architectural Profession Act of 2000, SACAP’s primary role is to safeguard the interests of South African citizens seeking architectural services. It ensures that architects meet the required standards, adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct, and maintain competence in their field.

SACAP was previously known as the ‘South African Council for Architects’ before its name change in 2000.

One of SACAP’s key functions is to regulate and monitor the registration and professional conduct of architects in the country. According to Section 18(2) of the Architectural Profession Act, no one can practice as an architect in South Africa without being registered with SACAP.

Apart from its regulatory role, SACAP also manages a fund dedicated to education and training within the architectural profession. This fund provides financial assistance to students through bursaries, promoting the pursuit of architecture as a career path. The SACAP Bursary is aimed at students who are currently enrolled in architectural degree programs. It is available for students in their second year of study up to the Master’s level.

The value of the bursary is determined on a case-by-case basis, with greater financial need potentially resulting in full coverage of tuition costs. Shortlisted candidates will receive further communication regarding the bursary within a few weeks after the closing date.
