About The FirstRand Foundation:
The FirstRand Foundation was established in 1998 as the legal vehicle for FirstRand Limited, and it serves as a platform for the major franchises under FirstRand Limited, including WesBank, RMB, and FNB, to direct their individual and collective corporate social investment efforts.
Through the FirstRand Foundation, donations are made to public benefit organizations, and the FirstRand Educational Trust provides donations to educational projects and institutions. Over the past 20 years, the FirstRand Foundation has been a leading corporate social investor and knowledge collaborator, committed to contributing to the development of a better South Africa through capacity building, mainstreaming disability, knowledge sharing, and leveraging partnerships.
FirstRand Foundation’s community development efforts encompass investments in various sectors, including the creative economy, green economy, food security and agriculture livelihoods, education, and more.
The FirstRand Foundation Trust Undergraduate Bursary 2024-2025:
The FirstRand Foundation Trust Undergraduate Bursary for the upcoming study year is now open for applicants. It provides funding for degree programs in the disciplines of commerce, engineering, science, and technology. These disciplines cover a range of majors, including:
- Commerce: Financial Management, Economics, Law, Accounting, Risk.
- Engineering: All specializations.
- Science: Statistics, Electronics, Physics, Climate sciences, Indigenous knowledge systems, Actuarial science, Society and sustainability, Data science, Mathematical sciences, Renewable energy, Biosciences, Environmental sciences, and Agricultural sciences.
- Technology: Information science, Business information systems, Information management, Information systems, Computer science, and Information technology.
The bursary covers tuition fees, learning resources, accommodation and meals, a monthly stipend, and a computer for first-year students. Additionally, the Trust maintains ongoing interaction with students, offering opportunities such as vacation work, mentoring, on-campus interactions, and more.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the FirstRand Foundation Trust Undergraduate Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Black South African citizen.
- Be younger than 21 years old in their first year of study.
- Have applied for and provisionally been admitted to a South African public traditional university for full-time studies in the specified degree programs.
- Have obtained a minimum level 5 in Mathematics in Grade 12.
- Belong to the “missing middle” and demonstrate that their combined annual gross family income falls within the range of R350,000 and R600,000.
- Currently be in Grade 12 or have completed Grade 12 no more than 3 years ago.

Closing Date:
The application deadline for the FirstRand Foundation Trust Undergraduate Bursary for 2024-2025 is September 30. Late applications will not be considered.
