About the Mossel Bay Municipality:
Mossel Bay, located halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth along the N2, has a rich history. It became a town in 1848 and a Municipality in 1852. In 2000, the Mossel Bay Municipality merged with smaller municipalities, including Friemersheim, Great Brak River, and Herbertsdale, forming the current Municipality of Mossel Bay. The municipality’s primary economic activities include fishing, agriculture, tourism, petrochemicals, and light industry.
About the Mossel Bay Municipality Bursary Program:
The Mossel Bay Municipality is offering bursaries for the 2025-2026 academic year to students residing within the Mossel Bay Municipality area. Bursaries are available for undergraduate studies in various fields, including:
- Civil Engineering
- Economic Development
- Electrical Engineering
- Environmental Health
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Public Administration
- Town and Regional Planning
- Any other municipal-related field
Bursary Coverage and Selection:
The bursary covers tuition fees, registration fees, and prescribed textbooks or study materials. However, it does not provide coverage for accommodation, meals, or allowances. Bursary funding is paid directly to the educational institution upon receipt of proof of supporting documentation.
Bursaries are awarded based on the availability of funds from the Mayoral Relief and Charitable Fund. Current bursary recipients must reapply for funding each year, subject to meeting the bursary criteria.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 40 days of the closing date, and unsuccessful applicants will be notified.
Eligibility Requirements for the Mossel Bay Municipality Bursary:
To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Reside within the Mossel Bay Municipality area
- Currently in Matric in or have completed Matric
- Enrolled or intending to pursue full-time undergraduate studies in one of the specified fields in 2025-2026
- Studying at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution
- Gross household income not exceeding R15,000 per month
