Mick Leary Educational Trust Bursary 2025-2026
ABOUT THE BURSAR
Epilepsy South Africa, formerly known as the “South African National Epilepsy League (SANEL),” is a non-profit organization that assists people with epilepsy and other disabilities in gaining the skills and knowledge needed to enter the labor market. Due to prejudice against people with epilepsy in the workforce, they often face challenges in finding employment. In response, Epilepsy South Africa established the Mick Leary Educational Trust. Professor Mick Leary, a former Epilepsy South Africa Chairperson, epilepsy expert, and Paediatric Neurologist, inspired the creation of the trust.
The aim of the Mick Leary Educational Trust is to provide individuals with epilepsy the opportunity to further their studies and acquire the skills necessary to enter the labor market.
ABOUT THE BURSARY
The bursary program is intended for students with epilepsy who have been accepted to study at a tertiary institution. The bursary covers all fields of study but encourages students to pursue careers that interest them and are in high demand in the South African labor market. Financial need, academic records, and community involvement will also be assessed before bursaries are awarded.
