Other information to take note of:-

Applicants may not receive any other grant for the same qualification without prior written approval from Eskom

  1. Vacation work costs will be borne by the relevant business units on approval by the same said business unit.
  2. The bursary is for maximum of five (5) years where bridging is applicable
  3. Failure on bridging/first academic year, bursary will be cancelled without an obligation
  4. From 2nd academic year onwards, failure to progress to the next academic year, bursary to be suspended
  5. The bursary will be suspended for one year (university) or trimester (University of technology) if the student fails. The bursary will only be reinstated once, thereafter on failure again automatic cancellation is applied
  6. The bursary will have to be paid back on cancellation (full value and compound interest at prime rate)
  7. Bursaries are only granted for undergraduate studies, postgraduate studies bursaries are not granted unless there is a need and approval is received from the relevant business units Divisional Executives.

Eskom was established in 1923 by the South African government as the Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM). Today, Eskom is the largest electricity producer in Africa and ranks among the top seven global utilities based on generation capacity. Eskom generates approximately 95% of South Africa’s electricity and 45% of Africa’s electricity usage. The company operates numerous power stations, including the Koeberg nuclear power station and Kendal Power Station. Eskom is currently chaired by Hendrik Johannes van der Bijl and is divided into three divisions: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution.

About the Eskom Bursary Programme – Fields Covered

Eskom is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025-2026 academic year.

35 bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields at Universities of Technology:

  • Chemical Engineering (Diploma)
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) (Diploma)
  • Electrical Engineering (Light Current) (Diploma)
  • Mechanical Engineering (Diploma)

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 28 days after the bursary closing date. If you do not receive any feedback by this time, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements for the Eskom Bursary

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have completed Matric in the previous year.
  • Must have achieved a minimum of Level 4 for English in Matric finals
  • Must have achieved a minimum of Level 4 for Pure Mathematics in Matric finals
  • Must have achieved a minimum of Level 4 for Physical Science in Matric finals
  • Must intend on studying towards one of the specified qualifications in 2025-2026
  • Must have received conditional acceptance to study at a recognized and accredited University of Technology in South Africa in 2025-2026
  • Must NOT be in receipt of any other bursary funding and must NOT be registered at any tertiary institution
  • Preference may be given to applicants from under-represented designated groups (in line with Eskom’s employment equity plan and its employment equity goals and targets)

Required Supporting Documentation

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your online application form (submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • Certified copy of ID document
  • Certified copy of Matric final results/certificate
  • Proof of conditional acceptance at a University/University of Technology (on the institution’s letterhead)
