About the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development (GDID) Bursary

The Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development is dedicated to providing bursary opportunities to deserving students. Their aim is to promote skill development and provide quality education to those who demonstrate academic excellence and have a passion for pursuing careers in the Engineering and Built Environment sector.

About the GDID Bursary

Bursaries will be awarded to students pursuing studies in the following fields:

  • Civil/ Structural Engineering (BEng/BSc/B-Tech)
  • Electrical Engineering (BEng/BSc/B-Tech)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BEng/BSc/B-Tech)
  • Architecture (BSc/B-Tech)
  • Quantity Surveying (BSc/B-Tech)
  • Construction Management (BSc/B-Tech)
  • Interior Design (BSc/B-Tech)
  • Supply Chain Management (BCom)

The bursary will cover various expenses, including registration, tuition, prescribed books, study materials, and possibly accommodation.

Eligibility for the GDID Bursary

To be eligible for the GDID Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • South African citizenship.
  • Currently studying full-time in one of the specified fields or intending to do so.
  • Accepted to study at a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Demonstrated strong academic potential.

How to Apply for the GDID Bursary

To apply for the GDID Bursary, follow these steps:

  1. Collect an application form from the GDID office nearest to you. You can find branch details at www.did.gpg.gov.za/Pages/Contact-Us.aspx.
  2. Alternatively, download an application form from www.did.gpg.gov.za/Pages/Bursaries.aspx.
  3. Prepare the following documents to accompany your application form:
    • Certified copy of your ID document.
    • Certified copy of your Matric certificate.
    • Certified copies of all your educational qualifications.
    • Proof of provisional tertiary acceptance or proof of registration.
    • If you are currently in Matric, include a testimonial from your school principal.
    • A motivational letter.
    • If you require accommodation, provide proof of your parents/guardians’ income (payslips or an affidavit if unemployed) and a student accommodation quote.

Closing Date for GDID Bursary Applications

The closing date for GDID Bursary applications is 16 October annually.
