Islamic Relief is an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded in the United Kingdom in 1984. Islamic Relief South Africa (IRSA) was registered in 2004 as a non-profit company. The organization collaborates with communities to assist impoverished individuals by providing basic services, including education, water, sanitation, and healthcare. Their mission is to transform communities globally and help them eradicate poverty through sustainable development initiatives. The Islamic Relief Bursary program is part of the Orphans & Vulnerable Children Programme and aims to provide tertiary education funding to children from vulnerable backgrounds.
About the Islamic Relief Bursary Program – Fields Covered:
Islamic Relief South Africa (IRSA) is inviting students to apply for their bursary program for the 2025-2026 academic year. Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate degree or diploma studies in various fields, including:
- Accounting Science
- Agriculture
- Built Environment (Architecture, Construction)
- Economics
- Engineering
- Financial Management
- Information Technology
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Medicine
- Nursing
Expenses Covered & Conditions:
The bursary will cover tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, and tutoring services. Funding will be paid directly to the institution where the student is studying, with half of the funding paid in the first semester and the other half in the second semester. Bursary recipients must submit their academic results each semester and attend academic progress meetings. They are also required to enroll in and complete a leadership program offered by IRSA and attend all four annual online seminars hosted by IRSA. Continuation of funding is subject to maintaining a minimum average of 60%. Students must reapply for funding each year.
Eligibility Requirements for the Islamic Relief Bursary:
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:
- Any nationality or religion
- Aged between 18 and 24 years
- Completed Matric
- Studying or intending to study full-time toward an undergraduate qualification in specified fields
- Enrolled or intending to enroll at a recognized public university in South Africa
- Household income not exceeding R450,000 per annum
- No outstanding debt owed to the university
- Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are encouraged to apply
How to Apply for the Islamic Relief Bursary:
To apply, download and complete the Islamic Relief Bursary Application Form 2025-2026. In the application, indicate that you heard about the bursary from “Uni24.co.za.”
Submit clear copies of the required supporting documentation along with your application (mandatory for the application):
- ID / Passport / Asylum seeker / Refugee Status
- Matric certificate
- Academic transcript (if currently studying)
- Proof of provisional acceptance/ final acceptance from your university
- Quotation for tuition fees
- Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslip if employed, affidavit not older than 6 months if unemployed)
- Parents death certificate (if deceased)
- Details of any other bursaries applied for/received
- Motivational letters (four in total, each 250 words) supporting your application
Applications can be submitted via email to: bursaries@islamic-relief.org.za (with “Islamic Relief Bursary 2025-2026” in the email subject line) or delivered to an Islamic Relief SA regional office.
Closing Date for the Islamic Relief Bursary:
February 15, at 23:59. Ensure that you apply before the closing date to be considered, as applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.
