About Magalies Water Board:
Magalies Water Board is a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) in South Africa that provides bulk water supply services to municipalities, industrial plants, and mining operators in various regions, including Limpopo, Gauteng, and North West. Established in 1969, initially to supply water to platinum mines in Thabazimbi and Rustenburg, the organization has since expanded its services to other sectors and locations. Magalies Water Board’s mission is to provide high-quality water services and positively impact communities.
Magalies Water Bursary 2024-2025:
The Magalies Water Board is offering bursaries to support students in need of financial assistance as part of its youth development initiative. These bursaries aim to improve the educational qualifications of disadvantaged students and increase the pool of talent in South Africa. For the academic year 2024-2025, bursaries will be awarded in the following fields of study:
- Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma NQF6/N4-N6)
- Electrical Engineering (Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma NQF6/N4-N6)
- Civil Engineering (Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma NQF6/N4-N6)
- Water Care (Advanced Diploma/Diploma NQF6)
- Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry (Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma NQF6)
- Biotechnology/Microbiology (Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma NQF6)
The value of the bursary will be determined on a case-by-case basis, considering factors such as the chosen course, expenses incurred, and other relevant criteria. Shortlisted candidates will receive communication from the Magalies Water Board by December 30 Applicants who do not receive an email by this date should consider their application unsuccessful.
Bursary Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the Magalies Water Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Age between 18 and 35
- Completion of Matric (Grade 12)
- Enrollment or intention to enroll at a recognized South African tertiary institution
- Engineering students must have achieved a minimum level 6 for Mathematics and Physical Sciences in Matric
- Interest in one of the specified fields of study
- For first-time tertiary applicants, a minimum average score of 65% for all courses in the current year of study
- Strong academic performance
- Self-motivation and enthusiasm
- Proof of financial need (household income not exceeding R605,000 per year)
Preference is given to applicants from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, female students, individuals with disabilities, and students residing in areas where Magalies Water Board operates.

Documents Required:

- Full academic record, including the most recent academic results (must be on institution letterhead) if currently pursuing the qualification
