Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Bursary 2025-2026
About the NMCH Bursary:
The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital (NMCH) Trust, founded in 2009, is dedicated to providing top-notch care for children in South Africa. With funding from the National Skills Fund (NSF), the NMCH has implemented a bursary program aimed at training over 300 specialist pediatric nurses.
About the Bursary:
The NMCH bursary program supports undergraduate short courses and postgraduate nurse training diplomas at recognized South African universities. It is open to postgraduate nursing students who intend to specialize in pediatric nursing.
Undergraduate students will only be covered from their second year of study onwards, meaning applicants must have completed their first year of study. Bursary recipients are required to work at the Johannesburg branch of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital for the same duration as the bursary awarded.
The bursary is awarded to students in the following fields:
- Child Nursing
- Intensive Care Nursing
- Neonatal Nursing
- Nephrology Nursing
- Oncology Nursing
- Operating Theatre Nursing
Eligibility:
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- Be a South African citizen
- Hold a Matric certificate (National Senior Certificate)
- Have a Degree/Diploma in Nursing Science from a recognized tertiary institution
- Be registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
- Have a minimum of one year of working experience in the field they wish to specialize in
- Have completed the Community Service year

Applications for the NMCH Bursary can be made online at NMCH Bursary Application Form. Application forms must be completed and signed by the students themselves and witnessed by another person.
Applicants will also be required to submit copies of certified documents based on their studies and work experience. These documents must be emailed to bursarydocuments@nmch.co.za.
