The Okhahlamba Local Municipality is a Category B municipality situated in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. It is the largest municipality within the district and is located between the Free State and Lesotho. The municipality falls under the Uthukela District Municipality and covers an area of almost 4000 km². Key towns in the municipality include Bergville, Geluksberg, Winterton, and Cathkin Park. It is also characterized by smallholder settlements and privately owned commercial farms.

About the Okhahlamba Municipality Bursary Program:

The Okhahlamba Municipality offers bursaries to students pursuing specific fields of study. The bursary covers the following fields:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Agricultural Studies
  • Town Planning
  • Accounting (B.Com)

The aim of the bursary is to cover all study-related expenses.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • Reside within the Okhahlamba Municipality
  • Completed Matric or currently in Matric
  • Intending to study full-time at a recognized South African tertiary institution
  • Applied or been accepted to study at a tertiary institution through CAO (Central Applications Office)
  • Must not be a Municipal Official, Councillor, or a biological relative of a Municipal Official or Councillor
  • Proven financial need

How to Apply for the Bursary:

  1. Collect application forms from the Okhahlamba Municipality Youth Development Office. Contact details are provided below.
  2. Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (all documents are compulsory, and missing items may result in your application being disregarded):
  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric June results (if currently in Matric, certified copy)
  • Matric certificate/statement of results (if completed Matric, certified copy)
  • Proof of application/acceptance to study at a tertiary institution through CAO
  • Proof of residential address (from traditional local authorities/ward councillor)
  • Parents/guardians’ proof of household income (payslips if employed, sworn affidavit if unemployed, pension slips if on a pension, or death certificate if deceased)
  • Motivational letter supporting your application
