About Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT):
The Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT) is associated with Potatoes South Africa and was established in November 2004 in line with the requirements for the approval of statutory standards for potatoes. Potatoes South Africa is an organization dedicated to preserving and supporting the interests of the South African potato industry.
Potatoes SA’s core activities include the administration of information collection, research, and a potato breeding program, as well as marketing and product promotion. They also provide communication channels for sharing information within the industry.
Potatoes SA Bursaries / Potato Industry Development Trust Bursaries:
The Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT) offers annual bursaries to qualified applicants who wish to pursue higher education studies in the field of Agriculture. Priority is given to students interested in conducting research in a potato-related field.
These bursaries are available for diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate students studying agriculture at accredited tertiary institutions in South Africa. Upon graduation, bursary recipients are required to work for potato industry-related companies or organizations within South Africa for a period equivalent to the duration of the bursary.
PIDT hosts an annual induction program, providing bursary holders with opportunities to gain more knowledge about the potato industry. Activities include visits to fresh produce markets, potato farms, processing plants, and research facilities. Bursary recipients requiring practical training as part of their qualification will also have the chance to enhance their skills through an internship and workplace experience program, improving their employability.
Bursary Requirements and Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Potato Industry Development Trust (PIDT) Bursaries, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizens
- Excellent academic performance
- Official proof of registration at a South African tertiary institution/university
- Second-year students in the field of agriculture for Diploma and Undergraduate applicants
- Honors, Masters, and PhD students in the field of agriculture (potatoes) for Postgraduate applicants

Closing Date:
The application deadline for the PIDT Bursaries has been extended to 15 November .
