About Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT):

The Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) is a coal export terminal located in the Richards Bay harbor along the Indian Ocean coast. It was established in 1976 and serves as a logistics hub for Coal Exporting Parties (CEPs) in South Africa, facilitating the export of coal. RBCT is not only Africa’s largest coal export facility but is also one of the world’s top coal export terminals. The terminal features six berths, covers an area of 276 hectares, and handles an annual cargo volume of 91 million tons. Situated at a deep-sea port, RBCT plays a pivotal role in the coal export industry.

About the RBCT Bursary Program:

The RBCT Bursary is awarded for studies in the following fields:

  1. Mechanical Engineering (B Sc or ND)
  2. Electrical Engineering (B Sc or ND)
  3. Accounting (BCom)
  4. Education with major subjects in Physical Science and Mathematics (BEd)

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and asked to participate in an assessment program. If you do not receive any feedback by October 31, 2018, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the RBCT Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • Completed Matric or currently in Matric
  • Intending to study full-time in one of the specified fields
  • Planning to study at a recognized South African tertiary institution
  • Strong academic record
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Preference given to students residing within the Uthungulu District Municipality (King Cetshwayo District Municipality) areas

How to Apply for the Bursary:

  1. Download and complete the RBCT Bursary Application Form (PDF).
  2. Alternatively, obtain a copy of the application form from the Richards Bay Library or contact the Bursary Administrator using the details below.

Submit the following documents along with your completed application form (all documents must be clear copies, and missing items may result in your application being disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric mid-year results (if currently in Matric) (certified copy)
  • Matric final results/certificate (if completed Matric) (certified copy)
  • Latest tertiary academic results (if currently at the tertiary level) (certified copy)
  • Proof of application/registration at a recognized tertiary institution (if available)
  • Parents/guardians’ ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents/guardians’ proof of income (latest payslips if employed/affidavit if unemployed)
  • Short Curriculum Vitae (with contact details, 1 page)
