About the RBIDZ (Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone):
The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) is an industrial development company located in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The primary objective of RBIDZ is to enhance the competitiveness of both domestic and international exports. To achieve this goal, RBIDZ provides high-quality infrastructure, tax and duty-free incentives, and competitive input costs. RBIDZ is solely owned by the KwaZulu-Natal government and is accountable to the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (DEDTEA).
About the RBIDZ Bursary Program:
The RBIDZ Bursary Program for 2025-2026 is open to students residing within the King Cetshwayo District in KwaZulu-Natal. The program aims to support undergraduate degree studies in various fields:
- Accounting
- Actuarial Science
- Agriculture
- Architecture
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Economics
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Environmental Studies
- Information Technology
- Marine/Maritime
- Mechanical Engineering
- Surveying
Selection of successful candidates will be based on academic merit and financial need. Some applicants may be invited to participate in an assessment program based on their performance. Bursaries are renewable annually, subject to the recipient’s conduct and academic performance.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for the RBIDZ Bursary:
- South African citizenship
- Reside within the King Cetshwayo District, KwaZulu-Natal
- Completed Matric
- Minimum level 5 for English in Matric
- Minimum level 5 for Mathematics (Core) in Matric
- Minimum level 5 for Physical Science in Matric
- Minimum level 5 for Accounting in Matric
- Minimum level 5 for Economics in Matric
- Intending to study full-time toward a qualifying degree in one of the specified fields in 2025-2026
- Accepted for study at a recognized and accredited South African university or university of technology
- Demonstrated financial need
How to Apply for the RBIDZ Bursary:
- Download and complete the RBIDZ Bursary Application Form 2025-2026 (PDF).
- When completing the form, indicate that you heard about the RBIDZ Bursary from “Uni24.co.za.”
Submit the following documents along with your completed application form (all documents must be clear copies, and missing items may result in your application being disregarded):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate/statement of results (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance from a university or university of technology (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of income (3 months payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, SASSA grant income or pension if applicable) (certified copy)
- Reference letter from a teacher or community leader
- Motivational letter stating your reasons for wanting to study at your selected institution, your intended field of study, and your career aspirations
- Proof of residence in the King Cetshwayo District
Please note that documents must be certified by a commissioner of oaths within the last 3 months.
