South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors Bursary 2025-2026
ABOUT THE COMPANY – SOUTH AFRICAN GEOMATICS COUNCIL
The South African Geomatics Council (formerly known as the “South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors – PLATO”) is a committee of elected members. All qualified Professional GISc Practitioners, Surveyors, Technician Surveyors, and Technologist Surveyors must be registered with this council.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The South African Geomatics Council is offering bursaries to students who are currently registered or registering for study in the following fields:
- Surveying (BSc/ BTech/ Diploma)
- Geomatics (BSc/ BTech)
- Mine Surveying (BTech/ Diploma)
- Geographic Information System (Diploma)
Please note the following:
- Students who have completed their qualification at a university must register as a Land Surveyor or a Professional GISc Practitioner within 4 years of completing their BSc Degree.
- Students who have completed their National Diploma must register as a Mine Survey Technician, Survey Technician, or GIS Technician within 2 years of completing their National Diploma.
Bursary conditions can be found on pages 4 and 5 of the bursary application form.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- South African citizenship
- Completed Matric
- Studying towards one of the aforementioned qualifications
- Registered to study at a recognized University or University of Technology in South Africa

For Geo-Information Science:

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY
To apply for the South African Geomatics Council bursary, follow these steps:
- Download and complete the South African Geomatics Council Bursary Application Form (.pdf).
- Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form. The submission of these documents is compulsory; failure to include any items may result in your application being disregarded:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Tertiary qualifications certificates (certified copy)
- June and November exam results (certified copy)
- Proof of registration at a University/University of Technology
- Provisional acceptance letter at a University/University of Technology
- Complete application forms and supporting documents must be posted to:South African Geomatics Council

CLOSING DATE FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN GEOMATICS COUNCIL BURSARY
The closing date for the South African Geomatics Council Bursary is 7 January 2025-2026. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted, so be sure to apply before the closing date to ensure your application is considered.
