Unisa NSFAS

UNISA Financial Aid NSFAS The University of South Africa (UNISA) offers financial aid to students through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The scheme provides funding for students who come from families with a combined annual income of less than R350,000 per year. NSFAS funding covers the cost of tuition, and students can also apply for a loan to cover the cost of their accommodation and other expenses. To apply for NSFAS funding, students must first complete the online application form.

They will then need to submit supporting documentation, such as proof of income, to the financial aid office. Once the application has been processed, students will be notified of the outcome. If they are successful, they will receive a letter of award, which they will need to take to their chosen institution to confirm their place. Students who are not successful in their application for NSFAS funding can appeal the decision.

They will need to provide additional information to support their appeal. For more information on the NSFAS scheme, and how to apply, please visit the UNISA website.

Do I Have To Pay For Registration if My NSFAS Funds Were Approved?

No, you do not have to pay for registration if your NSFAS funds were approved.

What To Do After Getting Approved By NSFAS?

Every year, the UFS Financial Aid office requests a complete list of students receiving NSFAS funding from NSFAS. Validation checks are made and NSFAS funds are allocated to students on the UNISA system. After the allocation, Financial Aid will notify the student via SMS. The registration prepayment block will be lifted five hours after NSFAS funds are allocated. You may now register.

I am a NSFAS-funded student but did not receive an SMS from Financial Aid to confirm that my allocation was done.  What should I do if I still need to register?

You will need to exercise patience with the institution.

Ensure that the university has your correct cellphone number. Please visit Student Academic Services if you need to fix your number.

However, if you have been approved for funding by NSFAS and have not received the SMS, please visit the Financial Aid station/help desk.
