Gibela Bursary South Africa 2025-2026
Gibela, a prominent South African and French railway rolling stock manufacturer, is a collaborative venture involving Ubumbano Rail, Alstom, and New Africa Rail. Alstom, holding a majority share, alongside Ubumbano Rail and New Africa Rail, spearheads Gibela’s mission to revolutionize South Africa’s metro fleet by introducing 600 modern commuter passenger trains over a decade, as directed by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

For the academic year 2025-2026, Gibela invites students to apply for their comprehensive bursary programme, aimed at supporting undergraduates pursuing various engineering, technology, and finance disciplines. This initiative seeks to empower students at Universities, University of Technologies, and TVET Colleges.

Bursary Coverage and Benefits
For TVET students, the bursary covers full tuition fees and a book allowance, while University and University of Technology students receive comprehensive support covering tuition fees, books, accommodation, and meals. The bursary is renewable annually based on academic performance.
Eligibility Criteria
TVET Students:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric with a minimum level 4 in Mathematics, Science, and English
- Intention to study in one of the relevant fields in 2025-2026
- Acceptance to study at a recognized TVET institution in South Africa
- Demonstrated financial need and academic potential
University and University of Technology Students:
- South African citizenship
- Completion of Matric with minimum level 6 in Mathematics, Physical Science, and Accounting; level 5 in English
- Intention to study in one of the relevant fields in 2025-2026
- Acceptance to study at a recognized University or University of Technology in South Africa
- Demonstrated financial need and academic potential

- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copies of full academic record
- Short Curriculum Vitae
- Certified copy of parents’ or guardians’ proof of income
- Proof of acceptance from a TVET institution in South Africa
