About the Basil Read Bursary Program
The Basil Read bursary program was established to provide financial assistance to students in need, enabling them to pursue their studies despite their financial circumstances. Bursaries are awarded in the following fields of study:
- Civil Engineering (BSc/BEng)
- Mining Engineering (BSc/BEng/National Diploma)
- Quantity Surveying (BSc/BSc Hons)
The bursary covers various expenses, including registration fees, tuition, prescribed textbooks, stationery, accommodation, and meals.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Basil Read Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- South African citizenship
- Completed Matric
- Currently studying in one of the specified fields (second year or later)
- Full-time enrollment at a recognized South African tertiary institution
- Strong performance in Mathematics and Science
- Passion and enthusiasm for a career in the built environment

- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Latest tertiary academic results (certified copy)
- Proof of enrollment in one of the specified fields of study
- Quote for all study fees from the tertiary institution
