ABOUT THE CAPE WINELANDS DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY
The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM), previously known as the Boland District Municipality, is situated in the Boland region of the Western Cape province. It is strategically located between the coastal regions of the Overberg and the West Coast, adjacent to the Cape Metropolitan area. The municipality covers an expansive area exceeding 20,000 square kilometers.
Worcester serves as the district’s administrative center, and CWDM is further divided into 5 local municipalities, namely Stellenbosch, Witzenberg, Langeberg, Drakenstein, and the Breede Valley. Some of the largest towns within these municipalities include Stellenbosch, Worcester, Wellington, and Paarl.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The Cape Winelands District Municipality bursary program targets students who are permanent residents within the CWDM areas, including Breede Valley, Drakenstein, Langeberg, Stellenbosch, and Witzenberg.
Bursaries are awarded to students pursuing studies in the following fields (Degree/ National Diploma/ National Certificate):
- Engineering Studies
- Environmental Studies
- Urban and Regional Planning
- Artisans (all trades)
- Risk Management and Performance Management
- Social and Community Studies
- Information and Communication Technology
- Education
- Law
- Accounting
- Auditing
- Medicine
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria before applying. Please note that failing to meet all the requirements will result in your application being disqualified:
- South African citizenship
- Completed Matric or currently in Matric
- Enrolled or intending to enroll in a Degree/ National Diploma/ National Certificate in one of the fields mentioned above
- Demonstrated financial need
- Strong academic performance
- Permanent residency within the Cape Winelands District Municipality jurisdiction
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY
Regrettably, the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Bursary Programme discontinued after 2018.
To apply, submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is mandatory – missing items will result in the rejection of your application):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate/ latest Matric results (certified copy)
- Complete academic record (certified copy)
- Proof of residence (utility bill)
- Proof of income (3 months’ latest payslips/ affidavit if unemployed)
CLOSING DATE
The deadline for applications was 30 November (16:00). Applications submitted after this date were not accepted.
